Hello I have been playing Bass for 40+ years and never had any formal training. So I decided to buy TMBG. I have already worked with lesson one and two and found some new things out.

Well... I fell off the TMBG wagon back in the spring and haven't touched it since. Instead, I pretty much play along to songs with an eye on technique and form. I play nearly everyday for a little over an hour each session. Sometimes I'll do two sessions in a day. This is my playlist of songs I've learned to play pretty well:

Bang a Gong - Bruce Diehl cover (awesome!)
Stupid Girl - Garbage
Groove is in the Heart - Barclay & Cream Club Mix
Can't You See - The Marshall Tucker Band
Neon Moon - The Blue Comets cover
Stuck in the middle with you - Stealers Wheel (slowed down just a bit)
Get Back - The Beatles
Low Rider - War (also slowed down a bit)
You can't always get what you want - The Rolling Stones
Sympathy for the Devil (live) - The Rolling Stones
Bang a gong - T. Rex
Willie Brown Blues - Ry Cooder
What'd I Say - Jerry Wilson cover
Fly away - Lenny Kravitz
Magic Bus - The Who
Give me one reason - Tracy Chapman
I am a man of constant sorrow - The Soggy Bottom Boys
Walk like an Egyptian - The Bangles
Born on the Bayou - CCR
Sympathy for the devil - Gail Swanson acoustic version (no bass!)

I play about 1:15 hours worth of songs at a time; not all of them.

Of all the songs listed, Get Back was perhaps the best initial learning tool - it's how I learned to do the double fingers thing. Now I hardly think about my right hand - it's almost automatic.

Right now I'm working on Our Lips Are Sealed by The Go-Go's and will add it to my list once I've become pretty familiar with the song.

And... I'm starting TMBG from the beginning, but I'm going very slowly. My first goal is to memorize the fretboard and do the four-by-four exercises before playing to my song list.

Here's to giving it another go. :D

I do Born On The Bayou as well, but it's a bit taxing on these old fingers. Will you be posting a video? I'd love to see how another TMBGer plays it.
