Okay, was that even a contest?

The ReBop has taken the sting right out of the Scorpio bass
with a biting 9 - 2 victory!!

Owch!

Methinks this Spector beauty has a nasty streak in her,
under all that black-cherry yumminess.

But is she nasty enough?

Now entering the ring, the slick new reptilian challenger
who just happens to love eating anything black cherry for breakfast.

Featuring a big soapbar pickup, 27 side-marked frets (no inlays),
a long upper horn, and a chilly finish called “Mystic Ice Crazer,”
this challenger has come ready to put the freeze on the ReBop.

In the black cherry corner,
the reigning champion...

The Spector ReBop bass.

And introducing, fresh from the freezer,
the new challenger...

The Cort Curbow bass.

Will the ReBop retain the crown for another round?

Or will the Curbow put the champion on ice?

You decide!!

This one's tough; two different modern styles.

I like the Cort's shape and the Spector's finish. Really don't like the Cort's paint job, but in another finish or even solid glossy black ...

Will watch the debate before deciding.

Same thoughts!

I like the Cort bodystyle and headstock better, but the "snakeskin" paint job is a bit much to take.

Gonna have to "cogitate" on this a bit. . .

Although my first bass was a Cort (way back when they were cheap crappy instruments ;)), I have to go with the Spector again. To me it looks like someone took a bite out of the bottom of the Cort.

The Cort reminds me of a shark whereas the Spector has the look of a dolphin. I like them both but gotta go with the Spector again.

Going with the Spector. The Cort just isn't an eye catcher for me!!!

After thinking about it I gotta go with the Spector.
The paint on the Cort does nothing for me and the lower horn looks just a bit chopped off.

Better paint and the Cort might have taken my vote but . . . . ;)

Agree ... saw it in Orange and it was really nice. But here ... the Spector wins.

I saw the orange, too. I liked the Mystic Ice better.

Plus, I thought the steel colour would appeal to more people.

Go figure...:(

Some history on the Curbow's late designer; this 'obituary' of sorts from Bass Player mag:

From his custom shop in the north Georgia mountains, luthier Greg Curbow handcrafted bass guitars with distinctive, deep cutaways and mixed new construction materials and methods with traditional woods. Greg Curbow died August 13, 2005 of a brain tumor.

In the ’80s, he opened a music store in Atlanta’s Little Five Points, which he kept open late to tend to musicians’ work hours. In 1988, Curbow was called to perform emergency repairs for Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, who was performing that night in Atlanta. Page appreciated Curbow’s repair work so much that he was hired on the spot for the rest of the guitarist’s solo tour.

After, developing his own designs, which included carved tops and a wood/phenolic compound called Rockwood, he licensed some of his designs for Cort’s Curbow series. He then turned back to building high-end custom basses. While Curbow would build to meet a buyer’s needs, his designs always retained an unmistakable, sleek visual identity.

And the featured instrument in the contest is made of Luthite - not wood. Very yummy.
