With a definitive 9-4 victory over the MTD 635, the Ibanez SR 5006E Prestige Bass
has once again taught us all a lesson in what it means to be beautiful.

This week in Skin DEEP, we're going back to a very basic instrument.
Basic as in 4-strings, and basic as in black!

I have always found Eastwood basses to be some of the most unique,
stylish axes on the market, and this new contender for Top-Of-The-Heap
status is no exception.

She's almost a complete 180° from the Ibanez in terms of image.
Industrial versus artistic. Vintage versus modern. Fretless versus fretted.

Though I'm not completely sure why this model is called an "EUB"
(in this case, Eastwood Upright Bass), I can only guess it's because she's fretless.

Anyway, ours is not to reason why, ours is but to vote or die!!

Thunder Row is proud to present our brave new competitor.

The Eastwood EUB-1 Fretless Bass has two very unique features that
might catch your eye. First of all, the rear-facing, sideways winding
tuning pegs than run through the ringed headstock...and secondly, this is
a solid-body bass with F-holes that go right through.
The guy demonstrating this bass of YouTube calls them "carrying handles." :p

Single pickup, bridge cover-plate, and simple volume and tone knobs,
the EUB-1 fretless can truly be called a contendah!!

But can this unique beauty stand up against the classic stylings of the Ibanez?

YOU DECIDE!!!

Very interesting looking bass. Seems the f-holes and cavity in the headstock would make for a very light and probably well balanced bass. But, on looks the Ibanez still gets my vote.

Yes, interesting design yet disturbingly unattractive, IMHO. Rock on Ibanez!

If by "unique" you mean blatantly ripping off a 45-year old Ampeg design, then yes, I suppose.

I know, I know, it's an homage.

Whatever.

Boo, hiss.

Oy....since the Eastwood EEBs and EUBs are sometimes called the "Eastwood Ampeg basses," perhaps I SHOULD have said, "I have always found Eastwood Ampeg basses to be some of the most unique looking...blah blah blah...

Quit boo-hissing my contenders... ...or I'll put up a handmade Whamola next week.

:p

It's a pic of the original Ampeg that Eastwood was reproducing...

That's much better. Very interesting history to those basses. No wonder there are very few of the originals around.
