I was a player back in the day. I played in bands from 5th grade all the way through my senior year in high school. My last band was called Random Joe and the Strillards. We were actually quite good, Chris Harford our lead guitarist and lead vocals was on the cover of Rolling Stone in 1982. When I arrived at college in 1980 I had sold my gear with the intention of focusing all of my time on my studies.

Well now I'm 50 and want to be a bass player again. I've purchased a Fender American Standard, black with a maple neck and ready to learn, the bass I sold in 1980 was a Rick frettless with a horrible neck. My goal will be to be playing in a band at our fall 2012 "Cruise Night" here in Hopewell, NJ.

Welcome to Thunder Row, Geowis. You're in good company as there are lots of diehard Fender fans here. I hope you enjoy TMBG and its lessons that will surely get you back up to speed. :)

Welcome. There are a number of us "old guys who decided to finally learn this bass thing the right way" folks on the forum. Great to have you here.

Welcome Geowis and What a nice intro! I think a lot of us can relate to what you're saying.

Played, life happening and music gets put on the back burner for a bit, then something happens when you re-discover it and why it is important.

Curious, other than turning 5-0, anything in particular that was the catalyst? And what kind of music are you into??

Catalyst? I'm a certified life coach, a financial planner and investment manager. During coaching, I ask people "what from a past life might you want to reconnect with?" For me it's playing bass!

Music? My favorite station on Sirius/XM is 1st Wave. I'd say 80's rock and New Wave, like The Police, Joe Jackson, Modern English and many more.
