Jauqo plays the same type of thing, except his is 15 strings...in other words, his is a five-string bass strung with triples.

Just like the Hamer 15 string on my Line6 5 string bass!! I think for me the 12 string is just a little bit overboard except on some songs like I showed in the real thing Challenge. I play the 8 or 10 string at my gig every week love that one!!

My first thought? That's a lot of strings to keep quiet! :(

Just a couple of videos if you want to use them for this purposes, but for the most part again, I don't see the use of owning one if you
don't use it that much. But I guess if your one of these guys you could afford it. I guess it's nice to have it on my Line6 bass if I ever
wanted to play one of these song, but for the most part it's the least used setting on my Line 6 bass.

Funky looking bridge on that bass. I have played a 12 string guitar and don't think I'd like to wrestle with 12 bass strings (or 15 either!

I believe we all know that you are not are don't play these 12 or 15 strings one at a time right? You play them on these instruments all at
one time each string set. Not like the other basses that are meant to be play one string at a time. I know this one has nothing to do with basses but you know me I do it anyway:p:

This is for those who play guitar also and if you can't handle a 12 string, how bout a 9 STRING guitar? This is the same
guitar in the video that I still own!! In the video he says they were made in 81 or 82 but if I was a swearing man I'd
swear I bought it in the late 70's? OK, maybe this does have something to do with bass, because if your a guitar and a bass player this is what I love about it and how I use it. When you strum it you can make it sound like a 12 string, are you can strum it and make it sound like your playing a 6string and a 12 string at the same time. And now for the guitar and bass player all at once you can play your guitar and lay down your bass lines like some of the great jazz guitarist do.
So this one guitar I'll never depart with. This is all I could find on this.

PS. Forgot to mention mine has the electronics so you can plug it to the amp.

The starting of playing this guitar starts at 6:39 in the video.

Just because. :)

Actually, I love me some 12 string bass something fierce. It's wonderful for fattening the texture of what I might be playing. I had one up until a few years ago (getting the itch for another lately) that I used in everything from country to rock. Scared the heck out of one country band leader when I showed up to a gig with it.

And if you can split your signal between a bass amp and a guitar amp....ooooohhhhhhhhh....make me do bad things and write bad checks all day long. This is my old one I sold to an acquaintance:

It's just another fun texture in the arsenal. And even though the primary intention is to play all three strings of a given note simultaneously, that doesn't mean some different and new textures can't be achieved by playing only the octaves.

Sounds like it would go well with country, has some banjo/sitar twangs coming through.

All I could think of when I heard the sound was, Jethro Tull.

And if you play with fingers rather than a pick, it just adds a nice depth to the music. It doesn't have to be blatantly screaming "I AM A 12 STRING BASS!!!!"

If any one is interested in learning about the origins of the 15 string bass and why I chose such an instrument feel free to check out my Thunder Row interview.

Just do a search here at Thunder Row for Jauqo III-X Life and Music.

Personally the best interview I have ever done.

Yep, I am aware that you don't play the 12 or 15 strings independently. . . ;)

I'm just thinking about the finger pressure required to press three strings at the same time. My fretting fingers got very tired very quickly playing a traditional 12 string acoustic. I think you would have to have the bass set up with a very low action or very powerful fingers! It appears that Jauqo, at least in that clip leans mostly to slap and tap on it. He mentions in his interview that playing it is a workout for both his fretting and plucking fingers. Although he mentions playing blues with it, on that clip it appears to be a speciality sound with some bass (not terribly strong or clear), but the resonant strings providing a lot of highs.

Fascinating, but not my thing
