  1. What's Going On

I haven't updated in 2 weeks. What have I been doing? I haven't played bass at all. I'm researching various bass teachers. This monophonically played instrument confuses me so much. When it's played well, it's inspiring. I've come to realize I need live instruction as the dvds alone aren't helping me overcome some big questions I have and the ruts in my path.

Keeping my fingers crossed a few live lessons will help me move forward!

  2. The Lows and The Highs

    I Got Low

I'm on a mini-break from practicing concepts from the course in a more structured fashion. I've been playing 12 bar blues to different backing tracks. I've looked up rhythms from my drum book and tried creating basslines using the rhythms and chord tones. This was exactly what I needed to do. I was really frustrated with the course last week. All I could see from the current and upcoming lessons is just scales upon scales without much explanation of why I was learning ...

1 month has gone by. And I'm saying adios to Lesson 2. I'm familiar with most of the flat major scales and will still work on the other flat and sharp scales over the coming weeks and months. I'm getting far too bored in this lesson & don't want to quit from boredom alone. I really need some musical things to reinforce what I'm learning because the scales I'm not using in a musical context don't settle in my long term memory. I'll figure something ...

    Time Flies By!

Can you believe it's only been 3 weeks since I started? It so feels much longer! And the reason it feels so much longer is because I've learned a lot of so far. Remember when I was confused about the I IV V? I totally missed that page while reading the pdf book, LOL. I even printed out that page. Somehow I still missed the concepts it was teaching ...

  5. Movin' on Up: Lesson 2

    Lesson 1 Update:

Quick rundown on a week of lesson 1: I've gotten more comfortable with the reverse fretting (4321) of the 4x4 exercise. Plucking 8th notes on the right hand feels more relaxed and easier. The order of the notes (calling flats & sharps) are becoming easier to remember. I used to have to think really hard about what came after Gb or D sometimes. Now, not so much.

    Lesson 2
    I've arrived at Lesson ...
