  • BASSES A BASSIST SHOULD KNOW

It will comes as no surprise to those of you who've been visiting the Row for any length of time that we have Ralph and Ashley scouring the Internet for news and items they think will be of interest to readers, and today they've each found a bass beauty they think you should be able to drool over. If the sound is anything like the pix, we can't argue...

    From Henry Basses

Yummy, the both of them. A person could really develop some serious GAS over these two.

Beautiful. Love the clean natural look of the fretless especially.

FURTHER INFO - From Andrew Henry:

"I'm located in Bloomington, Indiana. I just finished moving into a new workspace this past month, and I'm hoping to finish a batch of 4-5 basses this spring.

I studied Violinmaking at the Jacobs School of Music, and so my style and aesthetics have been defined by very simple, classic shapes with clean lines, and understated accents.

The fretless bass that you pictured on your homepage was originally sold to Jeremy Allen, who teaches Jazz Bass at Indiana University. Later, it was acquired by one of his students, and I still get to see it from time to time for adjustments and maintenance.

The body is a single solid piece of figured Bubinga. The fingerboard is Greenheart, with Bloodwood binding. The control cavity cover is also made from Bloodwood.

The controls are vol-vol, and the pickups are Nordstrand Big Singles."

Thanks, Andrew. The world is elevated by its craftsmen.
