      Great article. Memorization is generally the sticky part of learning - and not a lot of fun -but, as Joe says, once your perfectly familiar with every note on the fretboard or, as Ashley says "have the fretboard under your fingers", that's the magical moment when you begin to transcend from beginner to musician. Thanks Elmeaux, Lane, and Joe!

      Thanks for posting this. It's fantastic. Been using this, not even so much to learn scales, but to really learn the fretboard and especially, I think this is what Carol Kaye meant, learning to play by chords. This has been a big dose of deep learning in the past few days.
