  • Yonder Stands A Bassman

Thought I'd bring this around again.

At about 30 seconds in, the song comes to life...the shadowy bassman on a platform gives an already beautiful 60s tune its heartbeat.

The guy is so cool...he even tweaks a tuning peg into place during his playing.

      I found this online:

Shindig! Date: September 30, 1965 Country: USA Songs performed: 01. Colours
      Description:
      · Episode #56 of the Shindig! TV show, ABC, recorded in Los Angeles, California, USA.
      · Donovan plays with bass player Larry Knechtal, who was bassist for the Shindig! back-up band.

So, Larry Knechtal is the guy.

His Wikipedia page says that the late Larry Knechtal was a session musician playing bass and keyboards for Simon & Garfunkel, Duane Eddy, The Beach Boys, The Mamas & the Papas, The Partridge Family, The Doors, and Elvis Presley, and as a member of the 1970s band, Bread.

      Nice detective work, Art!

Thanks. Every bassman needs a name!
