While traveling recently, my airport concourse was crossed by a wonderful sight - a wheeled bass case! How indescribably cool! A little further investigation revealed that it was made by SKB who, among other things, make cases for military weaponry. Now we're talking! AND it's waterproof, so if your plane goes down over a sizable body of water, you can use it as a raft! This is travel insurance for my baby against the abuse of those occasional baggage handlers who fail to give her the cosseting she deserves.
What follows is from the company's website:
"Waterproof Injection Molded ATA Bass Guitar Case w/ Wheels(Fits any Precision/Jazz-style bass)
SKB is revolutionizing the industry again with the first INJECTION molded bass case! The 3i-5014-44 accommodates “Precision” and “Jazz” style bass guitars and is the latest size in SKB's 3i series of waterproof cases.
3i Series injection molded waterproof cases are constructed of ultra high-strength polypropylene copolymer resin and feature a gasketed, waterproof and airtight, submersible design (IP67) that is resistant to corrosion and impact damage. Its continuous molded-in hinge, patented "trigger release" latch system with TSA recognized and accepted locks, four reinforced locking loops for customer supplied locks, comfortable, snap-down rubber over-molded cushion grip handles, secure stacking, and automatic ambient pressure equalization valve (MIL-STD-648C) all contribute to its military grade design.
The plush interior provides total neck support and protection on all sides."
The case seems to run around $249 at most retailers, but you can probably find a bargain if you're persistent. Please note, you definitely ain't gonna fit this puppy in the overhead rack!

Of course, there are hundreds of cases out there, each with pros and cons. What do you use to cradle your baby? Write and let us know! (Pix welcome!)
