I've recently been listening to Angélique Kidjo's Black Ivory album, a remarkable sound salad of musical forms and styles, one of which is Refavela by Gilberto Gil, an unexpectedly light-hearted seeming song about the slums in Brazilian cities . Listen to the bass line on this cut, the only work I can use to describe it is joyful. Go to the address below and hit the top "Play" button, which will take you to her myspace page. Well worth the trip!
