  • John Frederick Preston Clarke

    One hundred years ago, double bass player, John Frederick Preston Clarke, died in the sinking of the Titanic. Most of us know the story of the band's determination to continue playing during the sinking of the ship to calm the passengers.

    Mr Clarke was among these musicians, and continued to play with his bandmates.

    Here's a bit of info about his place on the ship:

    Age: 30 years
    Last Residence: in Liverpool Merseyside England
    Occupation: Musician
    2nd Class passenger
    First Embarked: Southampton on Wednesday 10th April 1912
    Ticket No. 250654
    Cabin No.: E
    Died in the sinking.
    Body recovered by: Mackay-Bennett (No. 202)
    Buried: Mount Olivet Cemetery Halifax Nova Scotia Canada on Wednesday 8th May 1912.
