  • What was your first bass? Do you still have it?

Mine was a Peavey T-40 Bass as seen in the other video. Although after looking at video I now wish I might have keep it. But this is why I didn't.

Man this bass was so heavy if you look at my Avatar and other videos on TR that I put up that strap I had to buy way back in the 80's (which I still use and will probably last till I'm gone) was a great help.
The bass was so heavy without that strap it was like you know who carrying His cross to Calvary, seriously. And with the strap it was like you know who getting help from Simon with it. Not good for my back doing the work I did.
I sold this bass to a little Vietnamese guy and the first thing this guy said when he felt it was, man this thing is heavy,
yep that's why I'm selling it. And he did buy it. And to many other bass bought a sold.

This is just like the one I had in the video.

Mine was a mail-order hollow-body from Spiegle or Montgomery Ward. It cost about $100 in 1964 and I thought I had arrived...until it arrived. The neck could have doubled for a bow, which would have been great if it came with arrows. It didn't. What it came with was strings, none of which had more than a nodding acquaintance with the fretboard. I was one sad 13 year-old when I packed it up and sent it back. Then I ordered a Telsco from the Bennett Blue Book. That thing gave the postman a double hernia, and I needed a block and tackle to hoist it into position on my 6-foot 3-inch 145 pound frame but brother, when I plugged that puppy in to my Ampeg Flip-Top tube type amp and nudged the volume up to the half-way range I could re-arrange furniture within a six-block radius! I was Feng Shuiing all over the place! Sweet! LOVED that ivory-colored baby and played dances with my band all through the sixties. I'm not sure whatever happened to it, but I heard they cut it down and made a forest out of 'er.

If someone on the staff likes the content of a thread and thinks it would be enjoyed by more people if it was moved to the front page, we can do that.

My first bass was an upright - an inexpensive student model. I don't recall the brand name and I haven't had it (or any other of that ilk) for about 30 years. My first bass guitar was a Gibson Grabber which I owned in the late 70's and sold in 1981. I didn't own any bass until about the time I joined this esteemed site 10 months ago. All that wasted time. I feel such a fool!

Mine was a white Cort with P-Style pickups, couldn't tell you the model. It was light and easy to play, all in all a good bass to learn on. I think it cost me about $150, which I had earned by raising 2 lambs in 4H and selling them at auction. Guess you could say that's when I made the switch from farm boy to rock star

I have no idea what it was. That was 46 years ago. I don't recall that it had a brand name on the head stock. But I loved it! My mom sold it when I joined the navy. Then they moved away. Hmmm....

NO! I got rid of them both.

I got it at a pawn shop so I really did not know anything other then I wanted to create THUNDER!

I got educated at a music store and bought my G&L L-2000 E Leo Fender signature series. YES I still have that one along with my NEW 30th anniversary G&L.

I've never heard of a Peavey T-60 bass if you can find a video on that one I would like to see it? I know there is a Peavey T-60 Guitar.
I think I remember you said you had as your first bass the same as I did the Peavey T-40 as in the video. I'll talk about my experience with it in another spot here. This video is rather long.

A Peavey Millennium BXP 4. It was a gift from my wife and good friend. they surprised me. I still have it. its funny because i had bought some halfwounds for it about two months ago or so and didn't like em all that much and the action on it was HORRIBLE...well, after reading about all you tinker'ers out there, i thought, eh, what the hell....so i broke out the tools and flattened the neck out a TON...i swear it took a lot to adjust that thing...but now its awesome! and fits like an old pair of shoes! great bass for the money!

My first and only bass (so far) is a Yamaha RBX260. I bought it several years ago along with a Peavey Microbass amp. I upgraded the amp. to a Carvin MB210 combo last December and am hoping to upgrade the bass to a Carvin B25 sometime in the near future.

My first bass was a cheap Japanese red bass with an Alex logo atop shaped like a Gibson. My dad got it at a pawn shop in NYC back in 1970 and being I knew nothing about it, I had to have one because of Gene Simmons, I also didn't know it had to be tuned. My friends got guitars and they didn't know they had to be tuned either. We played very well together, out of tune. Anyway I kept that guitar over twenty years until one day when I was in the Navy. We were having a daily party in the barracks and I was really buzzed and decided to make a Steinberger model out of it. I got the jigsaw and went at it. Well, the lesson that day was don't drink and try to make a Steinberger out of any guitar.

Sorry, you are right! It was a T-40. THat will teach me to type with out my glasses on.

And the NO! was to the question if I have them any more.

      Hopy moley,

THat first video is my bass, the white one was just like mine. He said it was 12 pounds? I thought mine was 50 for sure! It was very heavy and mie was fret buzzy and I am not so sure they did it "RIGHT" like he siad 10 times.

Yes I think mine might have been 49 pounds. But I don't remember it having any problems what so ever but the weigh was too much. And I didn't remember it having so many settings on it. But then again this was my first bass and don't even remember if I knew what the knobs were for??

Mine was a Hofner knock off that I got from my room mate at college, many, many moons ago (he decided he wanted to play the trombone!).

It sounded dead, but I didn't know much better then. Didn't keep it long and no great loss when it went away.
