  • Brian Bromberg Talks BotB And The Fantasy Bass Boot Camp

By now, everybody knows that renowned bassist, Brian Bromberg, is the creator of Bass On The Broadband, the world’s first radio station devoted to the art of the electric and acoustic bass. If you haven't yet put this page in your FAVES, do so immediately! BotB is the bass player's new best friend on the internet!

Brian gives Thunder Row the lowdown on the new station and its unprecedented success!

TR: From the time you first conceived of the idea to the day of first broadcast, how long was Bass on The Broadband in the works?

BB: I created the concept back in October 2011 and launched in April 2012.

TR: How do you feel about the success of the station?

BB: I'm totally 'blown away' by the fact I have listeners from all over the world. Additionally, Bass players worldwide are submitting their music on a daily basis. The main reason for starting the station was to give independent bass players the opportunity to hear their music on the radio, when they may not have heard their music in any other outlet. Quite a humbling experience for me to be able to offer this outlet for what I consider to be a fantastic instrument. Pursuing brand new marketing dollars to support the content of the station and allow for expanded programming and features. This station is rewarding for me, because I'm able to provide an avenue for music that enable Bass players to have their own voice. I continue to receive positive feedback and support from musicians, writers and producers, who are ecstatic about the world's first Bass radio station.

TR: What do you have lined up for BotB in the coming months?

BB: I will be starting my weekly (Monday - Friday) radio show beginning June 18, 2012 from 10:00AM - 2:00PM Pacific Time. Another radio personality, "The Doctor", will hold down the weekly time slot from 8:00PM - Midnight Pacific time. Chris Jisi, will host an interview show airing soon to feature one-on-one conversations with many of the most talented Bass players from around the world.

TR: Are you getting many music submissions from listeners?

BB: Yes, submissions are coming in from all over the world at multiple times during the day. Everyday my playlist gets bigger and it's awesome.

TR: What genres are most popular in the submission department?

BB: Some Contemporary Jazz & Fusion Jazz. Also, Rock and Pop.

Also coming up for Brian is his participation on Roy Vogt's Fantasy Bass Boot Camp.

TR: Are you looking forward to the Bass Camp?

BB: Absolutely, I am looking forward to the Bass Camp. Roy is a great guy and we play his music a lot on the station. I'm really looking forward to hanging with the guys. I'm anticipating a fantastic time and an inspiring event.

TR: How did you become involved in the project?

BB: Roy simply asked me to be a part of the camp and I didn't hesitate to do so. I thought it would be very cool to participate.

TR: What do you have planned for the "Campers"?

BB: One: I want to hear everyone's playing level to understand how I can help them achieve their personal goals of mastering the Bass. Two: I want to make sure I answer all of their questions they pose to me and share my knowledge, who I am, what I do, in order to connect with them. Three: I'm looking forward to the intimacy the Camp affords me to talk with the participants on a more personal level. This will enable me to get to know the campers on a more personal level.

Bass on the Broadband rules! I've found great bass players I'd never heard before like Nico Assumpcao, Anthony Crawford and David Hughes (and I'm supposed to be some kind of Bass Expert or something ) Thanks, BOTB!
