  • THUNDERNEWS: Marvin Hamlisch Dies

He wasn't a bassist, but the contributions he made to the world of music are so significant that this man deserves a mention in our world.

    From CNN:

"Marvin Hamlisch, a prolific composer who put together musical ensembles for an array of movies, television and theater shows, died at his home in Los Angeles, his agent said Tuesday.
His work over a four-decade career earned him three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, a Tony and three Golden Globe awards, composing more than 40 scores for films that include "The Way We Were" and "The Sting"."

I remember watching Marvin on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson many times. Very self-effacing with a great sense of humor and a ready wit. He left us the kind of music that is truly timeless and it's good to know show business didn't consume him, and he was enjoying sharing his gift 'til the very end. Thanks, Marvin.
