    I found an interesting article from BestBassGear.com. It's a discussion about the most important thing a bass player needs to know. Is it timing? Is it knowing your fretboard? Is it versatility in style? Here's an excerpt of the article:

    There’s a lot of debate out there as to what The Most Important Thing is concerning what a bass player should know above all else, and opinions vary wildly on this subject.

    Some say the most important thing is to know your scales, while others say you should know what’s known as “perfect pitch” (and if you’re not blessed with that, don’t feed bad because most aren't . And yet others say it’s about knowing as many songs as possible to expand your bass playing knowledge.

      a little bit of all of the above is what it takes to play a bass at a high level.so i say learn all you can from where ever you can learn it . if it helps you be a better player than it is all good. i think that the basic,s are important first . but it ,s all good. so like i said all of the above. to a point
