  • Sunny-Side Up Two Sided Bass

I dunno, Gang. Seems the back of the neck would be just too weird for me. Not smooth wood under your thumb, but another set of strings. How would this fit with the pivot technique? And I worry the pickups and saddles, etc would scratch or damage your clothes, or vice-versa! What about neck tension?

Would the pups on one side pick up buzz from the other side?

She's called the "Sunny-Side UP" bass, made by Inspire! Instruments out of Germany. Click HERE and choose the ENGLISH version of the page (you should see a little British flag) To see both sides of this oddly designed bass, click the TEASE ME TURN ME prompt from the German version of the homepage.

What do you think? Buy it? Play it? Is this just a novelty?

Interesting instrument to see. Probably no need for a truss rod with strings on both sides of the neck.

Don't think I'll be ordering one though.

You raise a valid point Tobiasman. In fact, there would be no way to adjust the relief in the neck it seems. And a bit of neck relief is essential to getting the action low with no fret buzzing. If you set a bit of relief on one side, the other side would be unplayable without very high action. I suppose it is possible that the fretboards are pre-shaped or carved so that there is relief on both sides, but any adjustment would not be possible I don't think. It looks like an absurdity to me..........but what do I know.
