I know a lot of people have been critical of this rendition, but consider this: Millions of people saw a Rock Star playing a Bass Guitar Solo on a nationally televised sports event. I would call that a Win from the Bass Awareness perspective. If you prefer a more traditional approach, check out Norm Stockton's beautiful version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keg0NGlezZw
I agree with what Roy said, and I really like Flea. I think the brief solo he does in the Chili Pepper's song Naked in the Rain is awesome. However, when your embellishments render a song nearly unrecognizable, the criticism is warranted. He definitely went waaaay over the top for the venue he was playing for.
I've heard/seen Norm play that great version in a bass seminar I took from him a couple of years ago. A very versatile, gifted bass player who is also very approachable!!!
