Here's a trick I learned many years ago that will help you perfect any exercise or bass line. Because if you can't repeat your success again and again, then you haven't really learned the line.
This is EXACTLY what I've been working on. Your line is fancier than mine, but the concept is the same. Unfortunately, I can only play mine through about 3 times before I mess it up. But I am saying to myself as I go, "Do it again. And again. You have to play it exactly the same way each time."
Lane, do you think it helps to break complicated lines up into sections? To perfect each section and then add them piece by piece until you have the whole thing...and THEN ramp up the tempo? Or is it wiser to learn the whole line as a single unit?
Thanks Lane. This is something I need to work on and will add to my routine. I'm looking forward to your next lesson on this about keeping a log. Good info for sure.
Great video, Lane. Thanks! And yes, Elmeaux, there is a Santa...no wait, that's another story. What I meant to say is yes, it IS a good idea to break a riff down into its component parts and master each one, then string them all together. Keep in mind the old axiom, 'how to do eat an elephant? In small bites!"
