  • Pleading My Case

When I finally get my new Ibanez Jet King, I've decided to treat myself to an upgrade in my bass case as well.

There are so many out there to choose from, but I've been doing a lot of shopping around, and one case has come up on my radar as a front runner.

The Mono M80 is called a HYBRID case because it's somewhere between a hard shell and a padded gig bag.

The price range is around $200.00. That's a bit too severe for me right now, but when I bring the Jet King home, the decision may be made for me. "Please don't store me in a $25.00 canvas bag!! I'm a King, yanno!!"

So let's have a look at the Mono M80 Hybrid case.

    PROS:

    Gorgeous styling
    Lightweight - only 5.75 lbs
    ABS shell
    Sharkskin waterproof fabric
    Rubber feet
    Strong handle or shoulder straps
Neck brace to keep instrument secure and tuning pegs away from surfaces
    Impact padding
    Recessed hole for tail strap-pin
More than ample storage space (including a pick pocket)
Sized to hold most standard models of bass
    3 year guarantee
Also comes in a DOUBLE version, for carrying two basses at once

    CONS:

    Price

This case is designed for professionals whose valuable axes are going to be jostled and shaken on plane and tour bus trips, but I think that - professional or not - anybody who has invested a lot of money in their bass wants to know it's being well protected when on the move, even if it's just traveling five blocks to the drummer's house!!

Never been a fan of the gig bag idea. I know a lot of players that use them, I just don't. It maybe becuase I was once hit by a car driven by an old man in a parking lot while carrying my bass. It was in a HARD shell case and the only thing that got hurt was me and a scuff on the case. The bass was fine, the car on the other hand recieved a real nice foot sized dent on the right rear quarter panel after I jumped up and kicked it! I was hurried into the music store by the owner and sent back to the lesson room.

Elmeaux, nice case. So nice in fact that you may need a case for your case.

I'll put my bass in the case, and then the case into....hmmm....a green garbage bag....
