| Alex Choub - Russian TapperAlex Choub was born in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. He grew up in the city area and began playing piano at 6 yrs old. Alex started playing bass at age of 14 and main influences was Jaco, Stanley Clarke, Mark King, Tony Levin and other bass heroes. He then attended the School of Music in Krasnoyarsk, and played in the Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic. By the end of 80's he had become well-known among fans of Russian Heavy Rock music- thanks to his participation in Amalgama, heavy-punk band - through the 80's he played bass on many albums. In ´90s Alex moved to Moscow, joined a band called Attack and soon after he began working as a session musician and other diverse projects, groups and records. Two years after Alex went to Copenhagen to join the band " Disorder". The band, which did some very special music, broke up after a year, and Alex stayed in Copenhagen, where he still lives. Asked to do a solo spot at a festival in Dianalund in 1996 and then Copenhagen Musik Messe in 1998 endorsing Trace Elliot amps and wanting to something new, he began experimenting with new instruments. The experiment became a project, and the more he played it for people, the more people wanted to hear it. Through the years Alex has played live, toured or recorded with quite a few artists including: Debbie Cameron, Vladimir Chekasin, Luther Thomas, Soyka, VfSix, Peter Mossman, Secret Cinema and Jorge Molina. Currently, Alex continues to record and tour with Bassworks & Palm Tree/El'Mian and works occasionally with other artists. He has used various models of bass guitar through the years, the two most commonly used brands have been Handy Pepper (evident on his solo works and as exemplified by "Rush Inside") and Rickenbacker. "I have the Handy Pepper 6-string from 2002-Classic fretless bass – the one I used a lot with Palm Tree and the Handy Pepper 6-string from 2003 -Predator model. "I also have a MIDI pick-up fitted on it.which gives me the option of playing with a V Bass and the sounds like electric upright that I've been using with Palm Tree/Elmian, and a couple of rack effects and pedals. I haven't played the Rickenbacker in about two years. I really liked the 4001 and it's a stereo instrument, allowing you to have two different sounds from the two pickups. "I have Handy Pepper basses since the 1990s including the Classic Series and Predator models. The Handy Pepper basses are handmade in Russia , built by D.Youkomolsky, a former rock musician."
