Excerpt from article on LoudWire:
"How much is a prize item like one of Les Claypool’s basses worth to you? Now add in the fact that he’s auctioning it off for his ailing two-year-old nephew who is suffering from a rare form of infant leukemia. After putting the bass on the block, the Primus leader found out just how much it could get, as the auction just ended with the winning bid going for $50,599.99. ...

"Woody" Wilson - after the attack Here's what you've been waiting for - the truth about Roy's Fantasy Bass Boot Camp from people who were actually there. None of that high-gloss, rose-colored-glasses, pie-in-the-sky hoopla from the overpaid hucksters and producers of slick advertising and marketing hype at The Learning Dock's Interdimensional HQ, but tell-it-like-it-is, give-it-to-us-straight, 'warts-and-all' facts from the unfortunate souls who suffered through this horrendous experience... Sixteen year old Caleb Beaver, from Saucier, Mississippi, died in Memphis, Tennessee, on Christmas Day in 2011, following two strokes from a problem with his circulatory system - something that had likely been with him since birth. His dream of becoming a doctor was never to be.
In addition to his love for sports, Caleb was also a budding bass player in his church's P&W band, "Nothing Short of Everything." Organ donation allowed Dr. Chuck Shelton, from Lexington, Kentucky, to received Caleb's heart. Like Caleb, Shelton had always dreamed of becoming a doctor, but more than this, he also played bass when he was a teenager. ...

There's been some wacky activity going on here lately. Articles have been disappearing from the main page.
It seems to be happening as some kind of a by-product of the copyright sweeping I've been doing. As I run through all the pages and remove content, the front page articles stop being visible. They are actually fine - I just have to go back and re-activate them. If you click on an article and it comes up blank and says only that you have to sign up to post, you can either drop me a line or just wait until I double-check after my content sweeping functions. Doesn't usually take me too long to bring back the missing goods. Oh, Patrick? ...

After reviewing Kai Brant's "The Way You Look Tonight," I was eager to speak with the lady behind the voice. I found myself drawn to Kai's music on two levels: one, as the singer who could handle the classics with all the mood and feeling of the originals, and two, as someone who stands out as the perfect voice to accompany the bass guitar. Kai's husband, who plays on "The Way You Look Tonight," is bassist Martin Motnik. The way they perform together is something to be heard and seen. Since we've already interviewed Martin, it's time we spoke to Kai. ...

A big happy 61st birthday shout-out to Queen bassist, John Deacon.
From WIKIPEDIA: John Richard Deacon (born 19 August 1951) is a retired English musician, best known as the bassist for the rock band Queen. Deacon wrote a number of Queen's hit singles, including "You're My Best Friend", "Spread Your Wings", "Back Chat", "I Want to Break Free", and the band's biggest selling single in the United States, "Another One Bites the Dust", as well as a number of album tracks. He also played electric and acoustic guitars on several albums and, to a lesser extent, keyboards, synthesizers, programming and drums. He occasionally provided backing vocals during live shows. ...

TR Member Stanton Lawrence has some thoughts on the changing face of his band involvement over the years.
Excerpt: Making Original Music For the vast majority of the time that I have been playing bass, I have been playing in original bands. That is to say, bands that write and play their own songs. Sure we might throw in the odd cover now and again, but 99% of what we played were songs we wrote. As such, I never spent much time learning any cover songs, nor did I have a very high opinion of cover bands. ...
