VOX has recently released one of the most unique bass concepts I have ever seen. This self-contained bass/amp system is the ultimate in portable bass music! And an onboard drum machine, to boot! Ha ha!! Outrageous!
From the VOX Website: APACHE I Bass & APACHE II Bass Travel Bass Guitars with Built-in Amp and Rhythms Enjoy making music any time, any place, with the APACHE Series Travel Basses! The APACHE Series travel guitars resurrected the popular VOX Teardrop and Phantom body styles. Now, the APACHE Bass makes these unique designs available to the bassist as well. As with the guitar models, there are four color variations, each with a pop sensibility that matches its distinctive design. ...

The few times I have taken one-on-one lessons, I experienced some wonderful memories! On that note, I thought I would give a little plug to one of my teachers from past! Great guy to have known and be taught by! If I have but one thing I can thank him for in my playing, it would be in the art of soloing! OK!! For what I do know and what I was taught on this, LOL!
He has played for the Republican Convention and has also been featured in Bass Player and Offbeat magazines! ...

At about 3:15 into the video, when they come in close on the bass, check out the scallops on the highest frets. Most bassists would never need or want scalloped/scooped out frets, but this man is a shredder. If you watch to the end of the video, you can see him using them.
Also at about 3:15, notice the two cable jacks. The one he's plugged into is for the (split coil) middle ...

Boy am I late on this but I just found out (shocked) that Rob Grill, the long time bass player for one of the groups I might even be able to say I listen to at least one of their songs ever night before going to sleep (and also have seen the group many times live), has passed on. THE GRASS ROOTS. The man held the bottom for them for many of years, you didn't hear much from him as some great bass player but for me he did his job the right way as a bass player. So Rip to Rob Grill.

Pettiford was born at Okmulgee, Oklahoma; his mother was Choctaw and his father was half Cherokee and half African American. Like many people with African-American and Native American ancestry, his Native heritage was not generally known except to a few close friends, such as David Amram. ...
