Our good friend Bernard Lackner will, of course, be a guest instructor at Roy Vogt's Fantasy Bass Boot Camp in Nashville next week. But he's not letting the grass grow under his feet after that. Here's a peek at his schedule for August. If he's going to be in your area, don't miss the chance to see him in action!

Do I need to learn to read sheet music in order to play the bass? There are TABS out there, right? I've even written songs and can play them on my bass - without ever learning to sight-read.

The age-old question of whether or not a person needs to be able to read sheet music in order to play an instrument is a matter to be solved internally. Some people play just fine and have never studied formally. Others are deeply devoted to the art of musical structure and consider it the most important part of playing an instrument.

There's been a lot of interest in Thunder Row's new "Home Recording" forum, so I thought I'd post this "Cheat Sheet" from the "Home Recording For Musicians For Dummies" book.

Anybody who's ever used the "Dummies" books knows that they provide terrific resources on a wide variety of topics.

The Dummies website provides this cheat sheet to all - it is free to print, as indicated on the page where the sheet appears.

In addition to being expertly crafted musical instruments, Tino Tedesco basses are also true works of art, both in design and appearance.

    From the Tino Tedesco Website:

"The instruments you will find here are the result of my 20 years of heavy gigging, countless hours spent doing repairs and modifications and the direct contact to top professional players that rely on their instruments day after day.

I have always been fascinated by the principle usually associated with architecture and design stating that form follows function and my main goal in the last 10 years has been to offer outstanding instruments that stay true to this statement."

Nothing escapes Elmeaux’s eagle eye. I posted a link via Facebook to an article on Home Recording, and she suggested that I should do it up for TR as well. I already posted something about Home Recording in the Forum section of Thunder Row, so I did not consider redoing my article for TR. However, since I was asked to do it, I will try not to bore you to death on the subject. Here it is:

I scaled down a bit gear-wise, sold the short scale bass and the smaller bass practice amp. Got interested in Home Recording and acquired some more equipment. More stuff to do and learn, less time to write. Well... it sounds like I’m making up excuses, but it’s only human, you know.

Of course, the answer is a resounding "No!" In fact, apart ...
