So here I am in my "music room", working hard on the California Groove, having just graduated to the fast version.

It's a hot day and I'm finding it quite intense really, but I'm hanging in there.

My daughter comes past and I say, "what do you think then? It's beginning to sound like music, isn't it?"

(She only ever hears me on a spasmodic basis, she's away at university most of the time. Back now for the summer).

"Yes, especially when it's in time with the backing track. You were slow in the middle section, did you know?"

Grrrrrr. "Yes".

"That's OK then".

So I think, "hmmm I'll show her", and I spend the next ten minutes concentrating on speeding up. Cue more sweaty effort and flying fingers.

Then she walks by again....

"In time means not faster than the backing track too, dad!"

She's better than a metronome! Have her stand in the room whenever you play.

I just started here brother and my 27 year old daughter asked if I "could do Green Day!". And I "thought that came after rain" I told her. How come when their ballet or Flamenco is rubbish we gotta say. "darling that was wonderful!". When we want encouragement we have to be a whole band we never heard of! I share your pain!
