I'm Sick of Not Following Through with my Bass Dreams!

by Oxen Cheeks on 06-13-2013 at 09:51 PM
My hectic family life, and also my own inability to self motivate, meant that I my last go and learning bass was short lived.

I am about to start the journey again, and am determined to stick with it this time. I really kick myself that I expect to much too soon and become easily disheartened.

Wish me luck, and keep an eye out for my upcoming blogs......

All aboard, next stop.... more practice!

I haven't been blogging and checking TR anywhere as much as I would like too of late, but that is due to me spending more time practicing.

I'm back to having short nails again, as the sound of my nails clipping the strings on my right hand annoys me a lot.

by Oxen Cheeks on 05-24-2012 at 09:41 AM
So my goal for this week was to just get back into a rhythm of picking up my bass every night and focusing on getting the simple things right, like left and right hand position and making a clean sound while doing the 4x4 exercises.

I've also started memorising the notes of each string. Sharps up to the 12th fret, and flats back down to the open position. Sharps up to the 12th fret, and flats back down to the open position. Sharps up to the...... er, you get what I'm going on about!

and the horse is out of the gate!

by Oxen Cheeks on 05-21-2012 at 08:44 AM
I finally sat down in my quiet lounge room this evening with my bass, tuner, metronome and lesson 1 of TMBG!

I happily sat through the course introduction, and description of the instrument, even though I knew that content.

The first thing I picked up on was that my right hand technique was nowhere near as tight as should be, and that by utilising the correct placement of my left hand (more specifically my thumb), and the pivot method, that manoeuvring around the fret-board
