I loved it. To my ear you nailed the timing, and beginner students, who may be struggling with the application of one-finger-per-fret below the...

Do you have a favourite? In the clips of your band, you seem to rely on the Carvin Icon and the fender. Brian

I like Dawn's voice and delivery. The loss of the rhythm quitar does not appear to have a negative effect. Overall, 2 thumbs up. To my ear an...

My Return to TMBG

by Noel1983 on 11-19-2013 at 05:37 PM
Hello to everybody. It's been almost nine months since I last updated my blog. I wish that I could say that it was nine months of furious activity practicing and becoming an actual bass player. Sadly, that was not the case.

I took the break from TMBG because I wanted a live instructor to help me focus. From the start I never liked his teaching style. He told me that I didn't need to be able to read music in order to play music. While technically true, it didn't impress me very much.

What to Say...

by Noel1983 on 02-25-2013 at 08:15 PM
It's been a while since I last posted, and not much has changed in my life. On the personal side, things have settled down somewhat in Africa where my fiancee works, and most days I can at least know that she is still safe. So that's a good thing.

As for my troubles losing my abiility to play lesson one's skills halfway through lesson two, I went back to lesson one and spent a week or so refocusing on those skills. I'm glad that I did, because I have really improved my timing. I have

Reassessing My Dedication...

by Noel1983 on 01-25-2013 at 08:56 PM
Earlier this week, PaulUK started a thread on the forums asking other people about their practice regime. It got me thinking about my own regime, and I realized that I had become very lazy in my habits. And I am far too early in TMBG to let lazy habits creep in to my routine.

I'm still practicing (almost) everyday, but I put like 5 minutes into warm-up exercises, and then do the bare minimum of actual practice that will let me say that I did practice. I even had three days this week

Still With Lesson Two...

by Noel1983 on 01-16-2013 at 07:14 AM
So now I have been working on the b-scales for a little more than 2 weeks. I knew all of them reasonably well by last Friday (Jan. 11, 2013), but decided to not move forward for a week so that I could just drill them into my head.

Sometimes I get to thinking about other things, and forget what scale I am on and mess it up. But I know immediately that the scale doesn't sound right, so I guess that is a good thing.

Db scale is the last one that gives me any regular problems.
