Lesson 5

by BluesWalker on 02-04-2013 at 10:05 PM
I started lesson 5 tonight after watching the DVD yesterday. So far, so good.

I am also continuing to practice the moveable scales that were covered in lesson 4.

I really liked paying the "Bach" piece in lesson 4. Will there be similar tunes in future lessons?

Lesson 3 & 4

by BluesWalker on 01-23-2013 at 10:06 PM
I finished Lesson 3 last week and listened through lesson 4 tonight.

It is now time for me to memorize the minor scales! I will spend a week or two working on them using Roy's fingerlings and some alternative fingerlings.

The warm up exercise, called hazard if I remember correctly, is a bear. It will take some time to get that down.

Roy, in the lesson 4 tune, it looks like the quarter note walk section is a first intro to a walking jazz pattern, correct?

Just Started With TMBG

by BluesWalker on 01-12-2013 at 02:58 PM
I have been paying for awhile, so I am breezing through the first 2 lessons. They made me think about my technique, especially the "pivot", something I was never taught. I have also never considered dropping down on scales in 1st position, cool idea that i worked on this week. I am enjoying Roy's teaching style and watching/ listening to his band. I am sure I will be challenged as the lessons progress, I will post my progress.
