Very good point; that would be a big problem.

One way I've seen people get around it is do a lesson "in the style of" a particular artist or "based on" a song, but obviously not exact copies. Not sure how that would fly though.

Yes a lesson "in the style of" where the teacher (Roy in our case) makes his/her own interpretation would probably be possible.

I know there are sites like "Ultimate Guitar" where you can get TABS or GuitarPro-files for certain songs and as I understand these are transcriptions made by their members and not 1:1 copies of the original.
I also seem to remember that some sites were taken down so maybe that's also not a legal option.

Another solution might be somekind of subscription based lessons where you subscribe for let's say $5/month and you get access to the lessons, the membership fee will then need to cover the costs made by TLD and pay for the copyrights.
Or a system where you "purchase" the lessons on a per-song basis which might have the advantage over a subscription based system because you can choose to only learn/buy the lessons based on the songs thay YOU like/want.

But this is all way above my pay-grade so I don't know if something like this is even possible.

Roy's already done lessons in the "style" of the Doors...and don't forget the California Pop Tune. I'm sure they could do as you wish for other styles as well.

In he "style" of Jason Newstead...heh heh heh...

If you want some free transcriptions of songs and the video to go along with it, try the link below.

    http://www.how-to-play-bass.com/songs-get-it-on.html

There is a link to sign up for a free monthly e-zine on the right.

He does not teach theory, sightreading, or any of the other stuff we get on TMBG on the site but if you want to learn songs, this is pretty good.

Disclaimer: I am in no way endorsing this site, only posting the link as another resource for those who want to learn songs that might be familiar to them.
