Thread: Another old newbie

  1. Cool Another old newbie

    Hi all,
I've been learning the bass for about a year now, took it up to help keep the arthritis at bay, (more enjoyable than the tennis ball squeeze the Doc' suggested), feels like I'm accomplishing something too.

I tried learning the (cheesecutters) 6 string earlier in my life but everything just felt cramped; picked up a 4 string bass (Yamaha RBX170), last year and everything felt 'right'. The strings fell under my fingers, I had room to move - it felt wonderfull!

I get to jam (sadly only very occassionally) with a couple of mates, and would like to say - if you have a chance of jamming, take it. I 'buzz' for hours after on the the fact I, yes little ol' me, can make music!

Got my copy of TMBG yesterday (thank you Roy) and will be working my way through from disc 1, lesson 1.

One piece of advice my friend gave me which was very helpfull - keep your guitar within reach, hold it, play it as much as possible, it wont take long to stop feeling like an awkward lump of wood your holding. The easier it feels to hold the easier it gets to play. Oh and listen to ALL types of music, inspiration can come from anywhere.

Keep on Rockin', the thunder is under your control!
