I am looking to buy a portable recording device with bass trainer capabilities similar to the Tascam GT-R1 (which is being discontinued). Anyone have any thoughts on these kind of devices?

How about the Tascam GB-10?
I have and so far like it a lot. It is for guitar and bass plus you can pick up the optional foot control if you wish. What the hey.
Thanks. I'll take a look at it.

Nothing like a Great Bottom end!
I, also have a Tascam GB-10. So far, I've just used it for practicing late at night. I've played with just the bass, with the metronome, and along with ripped .wav files transfered from my computer. It has other capabilities that I have not tried as yet, such as slowing the tempo of songs and looping a particular part of the song. I plan to use these features soon as I am trying to learn the bass part for Dire Straights' "Money for Nothing." I haven't quite got it up to speed, and I think that running through it at a slower speed will help get it locked in. The GB-10 will also record what you play and combine it with the wave file so you can evaluate your performance. And there are various effects that you can apply to your bass, as well. Complete information can be found at www.tascom.com.
David, several reviews indicate you cannot 'cut out' the bass from song you are learning is that true?
Hope it is appropriate to point you to this thread........

Shine on you crazy diamond.....
That is correct. There is no way to isolate and/or cut out the bass from downloaded songs.
I not sure about this but I read somewhere but have not tried this but. in Audacity you could put one of the channels out of phase and that it would do a fairly good job of toning down the bass a lot. You would have to try it, I only say it because that's what I read. Anybody ever tried that? Are does that make any sense at all?
