Default Bad GAS! Your stories...what's that bass you want to play, but can't find?

Despite my newbie player status, and my love for my trusty Ibanez, I'm looking forward to buying a "big girl" bass down the road. So, since I've started playing, I take every opportunity I can to play every bass I can get my dirty little paws on.

One of my "unicorns" was a Rickenbacker...got to play a vintage 1979 4001 this weekend. *sigh* I know they're a polarizing bass for people, but I don't think I've ever played a more angry barking bass than this one. I absolutely loved it. Even the odd ergonomics didn't bother me.

My other "must plays" are a Musicman Bongo and a Lakland...any Lakland. Saw an Alembic this weekend, but didn't have the nerve to pick it up and play it. I think I'll regret that. LOL.

    So what give you GAS?

    Hey, Nicki --

Good call on the Bongo; I'm sure you'll love it. :-)

Right now, I'm GASSING for a Carvin LB76 6 stringer. I was exposed to Roy's and Brian Bromberg's Carvins at Bass Camp, and was totally blown away by the build quality and tone. I came home and ordered a Brian Bromberg B24 4 string, and should have it in 6 -7 weeks.

Now I just gotta get one of those 6 strings beauties and then I should be able to sleep at night again..

    :-)

I'm always gassing for a Gretsch White Falcon bass, but there are a couple of others.

Ritter Eye of Horus (or any Ritter Jupiter bass)
    Dingwall Fanned Fret bass
    Italia Mondial bass

    Okay, I'd better stop...

I'm OK Thank you!! My Line 6 bass for fills my bass needs for now. But when I can, I'm still going to get that 3800 watt bass
amp to blow my brains out with!!! Also I'm going to find me a old speaker and put all 3800 watts through it at once and blow it up and put it on YouTube. But as you can tell, WHO ME?? Got Gas?? Naaaa. When this happens!!

Ooh, you own one!!! How does the neck compare to a Sterling or Stingray?

Hey, Nicki -- the neck is closer to a Stingray than a Sterling, but fits my hand better than either of them. They are fantastic instruments; do try one, I bet you'll like it. :-)

Brian, she sure is a pretty thing. I LOVE the gold! Definitely looks like you're having a great time playing her. I'm going to try to hit the big Guitar Centers in Boston to see if they have a Bongo. So far, no luck. Worst case, I can order one in, I suppose.

To paraphrase Donnie B, all I want is a little bit more than I can ever have!

Lately, I've been GASsing for a custom shop Fender P bass, but the GAS pains haven't risen to a threshold that would make me fork over the $$$.

Nicki, try the Classifieds on TalkBass.com as well. That's where I found mine. You may even find one in the Boston area. :-)
