I used to use fingerpicks when I first played a 4 string, tenor guitar (had all straight steel strings - none wrapped) that was very hard on the fingers. Play my classical 6 string with my fingers. I probably play my basses with my fingers 90% of the time. I occasionally play my Fender P bass with a pick when we want a clearer attack than a P bass with flatwounds normally sounds like. Don't use a pick on any of my other basses. I do have to practice when it is time to play with the pick or I end up periodically hitting the wrong string!!!!

String spacing just feels different to me with a pick.
