Thread: What Is Jack Doing?

    Default What Is Jack Doing?

Just looking at this old video of White Rabbit by The Jefferson Airplane, and I can't help but wonder what Jack Casady is doing with his bass? He appears to have the nut taped off (some kind of olden-day damping system?), and a stuffed animal draped over the strings. I'm wondering if this was a specific set up for the staccato nature of the bass line in this particular song.

    What do y'all think?

Just mocking the fact that they had to lip synch the tune on tv.

I suspect that was to dampen the vibrations to get that somewhat dull, thumpy, tone for the song.

Man, that's groovy and trippy, eh?

    Hmmm . . .

Got me on that one. I'm aware that she played an oboe solo in an early, pre Jefferson Airplane (The Great Society) recording of White Rabbit, but have never seen anything about her playing bass, or any other instrument.
