Thread: Skin DEEP 2014 - Roscoe Takes The Crown

  1. #1

Default Skin DEEP 2014 - Roscoe Takes The Crown

Our Mercy Round ended up with the Sandberg California TM2 Bass losing to the replacement challenger, the Roscoe SKB-3005 Bass, by a vote of 6-2. After what the Sandberg did to the Lieber, I figured she'd coast through the Mercy Round, but then again, I know how popular those Roscoes can be! And I think the Cocobolo basses are some of the purtiest around, so...

Anyway, coming up to face the Roscoe this week is a horse of a different colour. I mean, we can't stay with those fiery Cocobolos forever, right?

This is the Conklin Black-Grain Sidewinder Bass. I know we've featured Conklins before, but this one is made of solid Dragonwood. A real wood-lover's delight!

She's a true beauty, long and lean, with well-designed contrasting colours. But is it enough to take the crown from our new champ, the Roscoe SKB-3005 Bass?

I am not too sure what i think about the dragonwood, but could grow to like it, maybe. The utilization of the contrasting birdseye maple pickguard and fingerboard going to the dark headstock leaves me cold, however.

I'm not a fan of the lighter woods! The Roscoe gets my vote!!!

Giving this one a bit longer due to the short run (Mercy Round), and the fact that y'all were off celebrating the 4th of July.

I'll get a new round up later on today (Monday).

i really love a good looking pice of wood. but the only thing that really stands out is the birdseye maple pick guard and it makes the rest of the bass look plain.o i have to pick the ROSCOE.

I did find that the pickguard detracted a bit, Donnie, but I still went with that wonderful, wild wood on the Conklin!
