Default Back at the week long Church Camp gig

We weren't going to do this again - it is a LOT of work to prep for it - but the band that was going to play backed out about 6 weeks ago. We said that as long as they weren't looking for an entirely new set list, we give it a try on this short notice. About 50 songs in our set list.

Heading out later today and won't be back until late on the last Sunday evening.

Camper trailer packed with my bass rig, my three basses, one of the guitar player's 5 guitars and his amp and pedals, music stands, guitar stands . . . Its about a 3 hour drive from here. Picking up our lead singer on the way.

Will be "camping out" with him and our lead guitar player, so hoping we survive a week at close quarters.

    Have a great week, folks.

You have your act together with a 50 song list. What choice did you have but to take it on the road?
    Have a great week

Got back last night. A great week and we've been asked back for next year. It will be the 60th year anniversary of that camp and they are planning on a big celebration. The sound guy recorded our band this year and we got it all on a USB stick. Heard a couple of tracks and it sounded quite good. We'll see what it comes out like. May have to try to post something here.

Had a couple power outages (lightning strikes nearby that damaged power lines and we had brownouts). First happened when we were doing sound checks on Saturday and the second was during a late night open mic event. Some of the lights went out and the entire right side of the stage went silent. Checked power levels before firing up the rig because low voltage can fry an amp just as fast as a power spike. Everything was good!

Lots of kudos for the music and we appear to have nailed the demographic as there was a lot more youth than normal, so we had selected a bit more stuff that we hoped would appeal to them. Seemed to work as they were going around singing some of the songs!

    I think so too.

I've played there 5 times since 2001. Two times with other bands and now three times with my own band.

We're getting ready for the 60th year anniversary of the camp. Big camp this year, back at the original facility. They are expecting crowds up to 1500 at some of the services. This year will be a bit less pressure as we are only playing 9 times over the week instead of 15/16 that we have in the past. They are holding an old time hymn sing in the mornings so most days we'll be playing only once instead of twice.

Might actually have time to enjoy the camp itself instead of playing or prepping for playing. Set list will be a little smaller as well, which will make the preparation a bit easier. The CD we got from the soundman was way too heavy on the vocals to post. Had to turn it way up and kinda ignore the vocals to hear the band. Have to see if we can get him to give us a more balanced mix this year.
