Aaand here we go! A new season of Skin DEEP!
If you've never played before, the rules are simple. Skin DEEP is a beauty contest for basses. We vote on which bass has the LOOKS. It's all about OUTER beauty! Brand loyalty, price, playability, reputation? Leave it all behind. Cast your vote based on looks alone.
Whoever wins the round goes on to face a few challenger the next week. Five wins constitutes an undefeated champ - if a bass wins five rounds in a row, it is retired to be in the FINALS at the end of the series, and two NEW basses will face off the following week.
I do NOT vote in the contests, but If we have an unbreakable tie, I may break it with my vote, or may invite someone who has NOT voted to break the tie.
We take suggestions; if there's a bass you want to see in the contest, drop me a line at elmeaux@thelearningdock.com or send me a PM to make your suggestion.
For our first round, we've got something traditional versus versus something off the beaten path. Let's see what our voters think: do you prefer the traditional face of the bass, or do you have an eye for the more exotic stylings?
Our first challenger is a Musicman SterlingRay 5 string. We've featured Musicman basses before; they are always popular and well received. For this Ray, it's all about the beautiful finish. The walnut satin polyester finish gives the hardwood body a warm look - like the temperature rises when this Ray enters the room!
